id=\"English\"><h4>Cellulite<\/h4>\n<p><strong>Cellulite<\/strong> is a term for skin dimpling and nodularity that occurs mainly in women on the thighs, hips, buttocks and abdomen. It&#8217;s most common in adolescent and adult women. It is caused by the herniation of subcutaneous fat within fibrous connective tissue, leading to a padded or orange peel-like appearance.<\/p>\n<p>Cellulite affects 85\u201398% of post pubertal females of all races. While not a pathologic condition, it remains an issue of cosmetic concern to a great number of individuals.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Symptoms<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Cellulite looks like dimpled or bumpy skin or orange peel-like appearance. You can see cellulite more clearly only if you pinch your skin in an area where you have cellulite, such as your thighs.<\/p>\n<p>Cellulite is most common around the thighs and buttocks, but it can be found on the breasts, lower abdomen and upper arms as well.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Causes<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, there has been little advancement in our understanding of the cause of cellulite. Cellulite is characterized by the presence of a diffuse pattern of extrusion of underlying fat into the dermis in affected areas, directly correlating with clinical findings, such as dimpling and orange peel texture of thigh skin.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Risk factors<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Cellulite is much more common in (1) <strong>women<\/strong> than in men. In fact, most women develop some cellulite after puberty. This is because women&#8217;s fat is typically distributed in the thighs, hips and buttocks \u2014 common areas for cellulite. Cellulite is also more common with (2) <strong>aging<\/strong>, when the skin loses elasticity.<\/p>\n<p>(3) <strong>Weight gain<\/strong> can make cellulite more noticeable, but some lean people have cellulite, as well. It tends to run in families, so (4) <strong>genetic<\/strong>s might play the biggest role in whether you develop cellulite. An (5) inactive lifestyle also can increase your chances of having cellulite and (6) <strong>pregnancy<\/strong>, which is associated with an increase in certain hormones.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Treatment<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>If you&#8217;re overweight or obese, weight loss \u2014 through healthy eating and regular exercise \u2014 might improve the appearance of the dimpled skin.
